VeriSyse Lens Implant - Alternative to Laser Vision Correction(Previously called “Artisan” lens) The first implantation of an Artisan lens was in 1978. The lens was initially used to replace the human lens at the time of cataract removal. To date, approximately 175,000 of these lenses have been implanted outside the United States for the purpose of lens replacement after cataract extraction. In 1986, the Artisan lens was fist implanted in order to correct severe nearsightedness or farsightedness. Since that time, more than 15,000 of these lenses have been implanted outside of the United States and approximately 4,000 have been implanted within the U.S. for this purpose. The lens received FDA approval in 2004 and its name was changed to VeriSyse. The VeriSyse lens can be most readily compared with a contact lens. It has an optical corrective power comparable to that of spectacles or contact lenses. Contact lenses are placed at the surface on the front of the eye; The VeriSyse lens is designed to be implanted into the eye. Studies over many years have demonstrated that it is well tolerated by the eye. Advantages of the VeriSyse Lens
